If the idea of a big leafy salad intimidates you, or makes you want to run in the other direction... this is the perfect bowl for you.
I was never a huge greens-eater growing up. It's not that I didn't eat greens... just the idea of eating a plate full of leaves did not appeal to my childlike, cheese and chicken nugget craving, self. When I started to get into nutrition, I read a lot of articles about food in relation to health. A reacurring idea in all of those articles was that the consumption of daily greens is essential to optimal health and wellness. It turns out, those flimsy little leaves pack a hell of a nutritional punch! Take a look at my two favorites leafy greens; spinach and kale. They contain high levels of fiber, iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium. They are also incredibly rich in vitamins A, C, E and K. In addition, kale and spinach contain an abundance of antioxidants that actually protect the cells and play a role in blocking early stages of cancer and heart disease... Incredible. And believe it our not, the list of benefits goes on!
So now that you know how powerful these plants are, aren't you just dying to go make a huge salad?? .. No? Well then, try this. Here is one of my favorite ways to sneak some green-goodness in to my morning routine.
1.) Add greens & hemp seeds to a blender or food processor, and pulse a few times until the greens are broken up. I HIGHLY suggest adding 1-2 tbsp of water or some sort of liquid during this step to help aid the blending process.
2.) Add frozen banana, pineapple, and mango, and blend until very smooth.
3.) Serve in a bowl and finish it off with your favorite toppings.
4.) Enjoy! ♡
*** Pro smoothie bowl tip; the smaller you slice your fruit before you freeze them, the easier it will be to blend.. Your blender will thank you!!
